Ohio State Medical board permanently revokes license of orthopedic surgeon accused of abuse

Orthopedic surgeon Michael Banks had his medical license permanently revoked from the Ohio State Medical Board following an investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct, NBC affiliate WKYC reported March 9.

Mr. Banks allegedly exchanged nude photos with a 17-year-old girl, whom he met when she was a 14-year-old junior assistant at Southwest General in Middleburg Heights, Ohio. According to previous reporting from WKYC, he committed sexual misconduct in hospital exam rooms.

The girl reported Mr. Banks in 2011 but prosecutors didn't press charges.

The board's 61-page decision described Mr. Banks' testimony about the allegations as "not credible" and accused him of a "calculated but efficient grooming process."

WKYC obtained documents proving the hospital knew about the allegations but didn't fire him at the time. Now, the hospital confirmed to WKYC that Mr. Banks isn't employed there, but didn't say if he faced any discipline when allegations first came to light.
