Pennsylvania clinic performs over 500 joint replacements with Mako robot

Orthopedic

Orthopedic surgeons at Penn Highlands Healthcare in Clearfield County, Pa., have completed more than 500 procedures with Mako's SmartRobotic technology, according to a Dec. 12 report from WTAJ.

The clinic has been using the Mako robot for the past two years to aid with knee and hip replacements.

Penn Highlands was the first system in Central Pennsylvania to adopt the technology.

"After performing more than 500 robotic-assisted joint replacement surgeries at three of the hospitals in our health system, Penn Highlands orthopedic surgeons are confident that people in the Northwestern/Central Pennsylvania region can choose to have their hips and knees replaced and be back on their feet with confidence," Matthew Varacallo, MD, the director of orthopedic robotic surgery at Penn Highlands, told WTAJ.
