From developing orthopedic education to advocating for physicians, here are eight key developments from the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons in 2022:

1. The American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons on March 24 named Felix "Buddy" Savoie III, MD, as its 90th president and selected its board leaders for the 2022-23 term.

2. Keith Feder, MD; Cato Laurencin, MD, PhD, and Andew Gurman, MD, were honored by the AAOS.

3. The AAOS developed a program aiming to standardize residency education.

4. The AAOS joined in filing an amicus brief supporting the American Medical Association and the American Hospital Association's lawsuit challenging the implementation of the No Surprises Act. 

5. The AAOS formed a $1 million grant program for diversity, equity and access in orthopedics.

6. The AAOS has issued an update to the clinical practice guideline for management of anterior cruciate ligament injuries, replacing the previous version released in 2014. 

7. The AAOS on Nov. 15 sent a letter to congressional leaders urging them to pass two bills concerning pay and prior authorization.

8. The AAOS' fracture and trauma registry began using PatientIQ for tracking.
