Nearly 1 in 4 adults in the U.S. suffer from chronic knee pain, according to a new survey from Pacira Biosciences.

Of 500 survey respondents who have been treated for chronic knee pain or osteoarthritis, 97 percent said their daily lives are still negatively affected by pain.

Patients reported effects on exercising, working and sleeping. Twenty-eight percent said their overall mental health is negatively impacted by ongoing pain, while 45 percent use opioids or other prescription painkillers.

Thirty-two percent of respondents said they have been struggling with pain for over a decade.
