Orthopedic

Zimmer Biomet's mymobility platform for the Apple Watch was found to be effective in helping knee replacement patients recover compared to traditional care, according to one-year data.

Researchers evaluated 401 patients who had total or partial knee replacements, according to a Nov. 5 company news release. They were randomly chosen to use mymobility with the Apple Watch or receive traditional care.

Five findings:

1. Significantly fewer patients using mymobility needed post-operative physical therapy.
2. Knee injury and osteoarthritis outcome scores for joint replacement were similar between the control and mymobility groups after one year.
3. Significantly fewer patients using mymobility needed surgery-related emergency or urgent care visits.
4. There were similar rates of readmission between both groups.
5. Changes in KOOS, JR scores from preoperative levels were similar at one year for both groups.
