$1M Vermont hospital renovation aims to reduce orthopedic surgery wait times

Orthopedic

The operating room of Copley Hospital in Morrisville, Vt., is undergoing a $1 million renovation that aims to improve surgical services and reduce wait times for orthopedic procedures, CBS affiliate WCAX reported Oct. 19.

The average wait time to see an orthopedic surgeon in the U.S. is 16.9 days, according to Merritt Hawkins' 2022 "Survey of Physician Appointment Wait Times and Medicare and Medicaid Acceptance Rates."

"Over the last few years we've brought in an orthopedic robot, more equipment and we have more instruments that we need to store. This is just the next logical step for us," Karen Cavender, RN, Copley Hospital's director of perioperative services, told WCAX.

The hospital told the news station it plans to have the expansion completed by March.
