5 states with the most employed orthopedic surgeons

California, the largest state in the nation by population size, also has the highest number of employed orthopedic surgeons, with an estimated 2,570 working in the state, according to the newest data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, released April 3.

All five states with the most employed orthopedic surgeons are also within the top 12 states in the U.S. based on population size. 

Here are the five states with the most employed orthopedic surgeons, and the number of employed specialists in each: 

1. California: 2,570

2. New York: 1,260

3. Florida: 1,140

4. Georgia: 1,090

5. Virginia: 600
