Below is a list of five orthopedic surgeons who have made a positive impact on their organizations and the profession.

  1. Alexander Sah, MD. Institute for Joint Restoration and Research (Fremont, Calif.): Dr. Sah is medical co-director of the Institute for Joint Restoration and Research and director of its outpatient joint replacement program. He specializes in minimally invasive and revision hip and knee replacement, including anterior hip and partial knee procedures. Dr. Sah is active in national education and research on outpatient joint replacement and enhanced recovery protocols. 
  2. Albert Lin, MD. University of Pittsburgh Medical Center: Dr. Lin is chief of shoulder surgery and associate chief of sports medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, where he also directs the orthopedic surgery residency program. His clinical focus includes arthroscopy, arthroplasty and complex reconstructive shoulder surgery. He leads federally funded research on shoulder biomechanics and rotator cuff pathology and has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications.
  3. Mary Mulcahey, MD — Loyola University Medical Center (Chicago): Dr. Mulcahey is division director of sports medicine and director of the women’s sports medicine program at Loyola University Medical Center. She specializes in shoulder and knee surgery, ACL and rotator cuff repair and comprehensive sports medicine care. Dr. Mulcahey also serves as a team physician for the Loyola Ramblers and is active in national sports medicine education and leadership.
  4. Kristy Weber, MD. University of Pennsylvania Health System (Philadelphia): Dr. Weber is the Abramson family professor in sarcoma care excellence and vice chair of faculty affairs at the University of Pennsylvania. She specializes in orthopedic oncology and leads Penn’s sarcoma program. Dr. Weber was the first female president of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and is nationally recognized for her research in metastatic bone disease and her leadership in advancing diversity and inclusion in orthopedics.
  5. David Kugelman, MD. Rothman Orthopaedics (Philadelphia): Dr. Kugelman is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in hip and knee replacement surgery at Rothman Orthopaedics. His expertise includes robotic-assisted joint replacement, complex revision procedures, and the management of prosthetic infections. He has published and presented research nationally on joint reconstruction and infection prevention.
