21 hospitals, health systems recently expanding orthopedic services

Here are 21 hospitals or health systems that have expanded or added orthopedic services in the past two months.

1. Beebe Hospital in Rehoboth Beach, Del., broke ground on its new surgical center. The hospital will perform several types of surgeries including orthopedics, general surgery, urology and gynecologic procedures.

2. Overland Park, Kan.-based Saint Luke's South Hospital nears completion of its new rehabilitation center, designed to treat orthopedic injuries, as well as brain or spinal cord conditions.

3. Franklin County Medical Center in Preston, Idaho, completed the remodeling of its orthopedics-focused specialty clinic. The hospital added two exam rooms and one procedure room, bringing the total to four ORs and two procedure rooms.

4. Helena, Mont.-based St. Peter's Health opened an orthopedic urgent care center on its main campus. Clinicians will treat common orthopedic injuries at the clinic.

5. Springfield, Mass.-based Mercy Medical Center opened the Minimally Invasive Spine Center of New England on its main campus. Physicians will perform minimally invasive spine and neck procedures at the center, which is part of Mercy's Neurosurgical Institute

6. Presbyterian and New Mexico Orthopaedics are set to open a new surgery center on the Presbyterian Kaseman Hospital campus in Albuquerque, N.M. The facility will focus on same day orthopedic, podiatry and pain surgical services.

7. Suffolk, Va.-based Lakeview Medical Center at Harbour View broke ground on a $14 million, 42,000-square-foot medical office building complex with an ambulatory surgery center. The center will offer OB-GYN, pulmonary, cardiology, orthopedic and surgical services.

8. HCA Healthcare-affiliated Oviedo (Fla.) Medical Center opened a spine care center on its campus. Oviedo physicians will treat herniated discs, spinal stenosis, myelopathy, compression fractures and degenerative scoliosis, among other conditions.

9. Adena Health System is investing $70 million for a new Orthopedic and Robotics Center on the Adena Regional Medical Center campus in Chillicothe, Ohio. It will feature at least six operating rooms to meet the technological and special requirements for orthopedic and robot-assisted procedures.

10. The University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington is preparing to open a new $200 million building that will feature 128 single-bed rooms, focusing on specialty surgery, cardiology, oncology and orthopedic patients.

11. Ocala, Fla.-based West Marion Community Hospital added an orthopedic-facing addition to its hospital. It added a surgical tower with 36 inpatient beds dedicated to orthopedics.

12. Dayton Children's Hospital opened an after-hours orthopedic clinic on its Springboro, Ohio, campus. The specialists will treat broken bones and sports injuries during the evening and on weekends.

13. Northfield Hospital and Clinics is leasing a new space in Faribault, Minn., for its orthopedics and ENT clinic. The new center is already built like a clinic and will require $300,000 build-out costs to feature the planned specialties.

14. UnityPoint Health — Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge, Iowa, will resume orthopedic services in the city thanks to a partnership with Center for Neurosciences, Orthopaedics & Spine PC. UnityPoint's orthopedic clinic has been closed since Nov. 8, 2018.

15. Sanford Health is transferring its orthopedic walk-in clinic to Fargo, N.D.-based Sanford South University Medical Center through a $20 million to $25 million construction and renovation project.

16. Albany Medical Center in Clifton Park, N.Y, began construction on an urgent care medical complex. It will feature a new satellite office for orthopedic specialists with The Bone and Joint Center, which focuses on treatments for the spine, hand, upper and lower extremities, hips and sports-related injuries.

17. The New York Department of Health approved Warsaw, N.Y.-based Wyoming County Community Hospital's $1.1 million orthopedic expansion. It plans to turn its former emergency department into an outpatient orthopedic clinic as part of a larger $10 million expansion.

18. King's Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky., expanded its King's Daughters Orthopedics and Sports Medicine practice. The practice now features a series of orthopedic-only surgical suites.

19. Children's Hospital Kennedy Outpatient Center opened in Chattanooga, Tenn., providing pediatric specialty clinics such as cardiology, neurology, genetics, gastroenterology and orthopedics.

20. Charlottesville, Va.-based Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital opened an orthopedic practice in Crozet, Va., to accommodate growing demand. Sentara physicians provide general orthopedic, imaging and pain management services.

21. Skokie (Ill.) Hospital, switched its focus from general surgery to orthopedic and spine care. The hospital will handle orthopedic and spine cases for the entire Evanston, Ill.-based NorthShore University Health System with which it is affiliated.
