Less than half of orthopedists are reimbursed on a fee-for-service basis, according to Medscape's 2018 Orthopedist Compensation report.

Here is how orthopedists are reimbursed.

1. Insurance: 80 percent

2. Fee-for-service: 47 percent

3. ACO: 19 percent

4. Cash-only practice: 5 percent

5. Direct primary care: 4 percent

6. Concierge practice: 2 percent
