4 things to know about Dr. Robert Loeffler ahead of his 2018 Muhlenberg College Commencement Address

Orthopedic surgeon Robert D. Loeffler, MD, will deliver the 2018 Muhlenberg College Commencement Address in Allentown, Pa., May 18. He will receive an honorary doctorate during the ceremony.

Here are four things to know.

1. Dr. Loeffler graduated from Muhlenberg College in 1970 with a bachelor’s degree in biology. He received his medical degree from the Philadelphia-based Temple University School of Medicine.

2. He served as an orthopedic surgeon with Doctors Without Borders and has contributed to natural disaster response efforts in Haiti and El Salvador. Dr. Loeffler has also provided medical care to refugees at the Syrian/Jordanian border.

3. Dr. Loeffler served as the head team physician for the University of Denver and acted as the director of sports medicine for the University of Colorado’s orthopedic department. He was the chief of staff at Marathon, Fla.-based Fisherman’s Hospital.

4. He is a member of the American Orthopedic Society of Sports Medicine and the Arthroscopy Association of North America, among other professional organizations.
