Orthopedic surgeon leader to know: Dr. Francis Hornicek of Massachusetts General Hospital

Francis John Hornicek, MD, PhD, is an orthopedic surgeon at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. His clinical interests focus on orthopedic oncology, including the treatment of patients of bone and soft tissue tumors.

He serves as the chief of the orthopedic oncology service, vice-chair for biologics research in the department of orthopedic surgery, co-director of the center for sarcoma and connective tissue oncology and director of the MGH Stephan L. Harris Chordoma Center at Massachusetts General Hospital. His research, which has been published in International Journal of Radiation Oncology and Clinical Cancer Research, focuses on allograft transplantation, immunotherapy and musculoskeletal tumors.

 

Dr. Hornicek earned his medical degree at University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He went on to complete an orthopedic surgery residency at University of Miami and an orthopedic oncology fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital and Boston Children's Hospital. He also earned a physics-biophysics PhD from Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C.
