Under the partnership, Graymont X is bundling a Dispose Rx disposable packet with its cold therapy products to encourage patients to throw out unused opioids at home. Chicago-based Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush, Des Plaines-based American Hip Institute and Rockford-based OrthoIllinois are piloting the program.

Orthopedic surgeons and organizations continue to focus on reducing opioid use. A study published early in 2022 found surgeons tend to overprescribe opioids to joint replacement patients. In February, the CDC proposed new guidelines that would encourage physicians to use their best judgment when prescribing opioids.
