2 orthopedic care facilities moving into retail spaces

Two hospitals are turning to former retail shops to repurpose for orthopedic services.

University of Rochester (N.Y.) Medical Center is planning a $277 million orthopedic center in a former Sears retail space. The 350,000-square-foot facility in Henrietta, N.Y., will include 210,000 square feet of renovated space. Another 140,000 square feet will be used for an outpatient clinic. 

Lewisburg, Pa.-based Evangelical Community Hospital is moving Sun Orthopaedics of Evangelical into the Susquehanna Valley Mall, the report said. Its new space will be adjacent to the Family Practice Center, a primary care group based in Selinsgrove, Pa.

Both projects are expected to be completed in 2023.
