19% of orthopedic surgeons have $5M+ net worth

Nearly one-fifth of orthopedic surgeons have a net worth over $5 million, according to the Medscape Physician Debt and Net Worth Report 2020.

Nineteen percent of orthopedic surgeons reported a net worth of more than $5 million, which was the highest percentage of specialists featured in the report. The top five specialties with the highest percentage of respondents with a $5 million net worth or more were:

1. Orthopedics: 19 percent
2. Plastic surgery: 16 percent
3. Gastroenterology: 16 percent
4. Cardiology: 15 percent
5. Dermatology: 15 percent

On the other end of the spectrum, 24 percent of orthopedic surgeons said their net worth was under $500,000.
