Which U.S. region has the highest salaries for residents?

Residents in the Northwest earn the highest salaries, according to Medscape’s Residents Salary & Debt Report 2014.

More than 1,200 residents across 25 specialties took part in the online survey between June 20 and July 7. All participants were enrolled in a U.S. medical resident program.

 

According to the report, here is average resident salary by geographic location:

 

•    Northwest — $71,000
•    Northeast — $61,000
•    West — $57,000
•    Great Lakes — $54,000
•    Mid-Atlantic — $54,000
•    South Central — $54,000
•    Southwest — $54,000
•    North Central — $52,000
•    Southeast — $50,000
