Realtor.com dug into the make-ups of the 250 largest American cities, searching for the 10 most compassionate.

The analysis used the following criteria:

 

• Percentage of income donated
• Volunteer rate
• Percentage of people working in social services
• Percentage of people working for nonprofit organizations
• Public charities per capita
• Animal shelters per capita

 

Here are the 10 most compassionate cities, based on the above criteria:
