Vermont hospital adds outpatient joint replacements

Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital in St. Johnsbury is now providing same-day knee and hip replacements, according to a June 22 report.

Three things to know:

1. The hospital’s orthopedic department has six providers, including three orthopedic surgeons, according to its website.

2. Richard Gagnon, MD, Matthew Prohaska, MD, and Jeremey Korsh, MD, perform orthopedic procedures at the hospital.

3. Total joint replacement surgeries are projected to increase rapidly in the coming years, with the COVID-19 pandemic expected to accelerate the shift of these procedures away from hospitals toward outpatient settings.
