Most physician residents prefer testing over other forms of hospital communication channels, according to iHealthBeat.

The study surveyed 131 internal medicine residents at the University of Chicago and University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.

 

Journal of Medical Internet Research published the study.

 

Here are five takeaways:

 

1. Nearly 72 percent of respondents preferred testing for its efficiency.

 

2. Of the polled residents, 79.8 percent preferred testing for its ease of use.

 

3. Approximately 83 percent of respondents preferred the hospital paging system for security purposes, compared to 20 percent who preferred texting.

 

4. Nearly 80 percent of respondents reported receiving patient identifiers via text, and 81.7 percent received patient initials through texting.

 

5. A reported 50.4 percent of respondents received a patient’s medical record number via text.
