Top 5 States With Highest Rates of Students Enrolled in Medical & Osteopathic Schools

West Virginia had the highest rate per 100,000 population of students in medical or osteopathic schools in the 2012-13 academic year, according to the “2013 State Physician Workforce Data Book released by Association of American Medical Colleges’ Center for Workforce Studies.

Data for the following statistics was taken from the AAMC Data Warehouse and the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine’s enrollment information.

 

Here are the top five states with the highest rates per 100,000 population of students enrolled in medical or osteopathic schools in 2012-13 academic year:

 

•    West Virginia — 84.6 percent
•    Vermont — 74 percent
•    Missouri — 63.9 percent
•    Pennsylvania — 62.3 percent
•    Nebraska — 60.4 percent
