Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis had the highest number of gradates actively licensed to practice medicine in the U.S. in 2012, according to “A Census of Actively Licensed Physicians in the United States, 2012,” published in the Journal of Medical Regulation.

The report includes data received from state medical boards in 2012 by the Federation of State Medical Boards. The following data was taken from the 2012 FSMB Census of Licensed Physicians.

 
Here are the top five medical schools with the highest number of graduates who were actively licensed to practice medicine in 2012:

 

•    Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis — 10,493
•    University of Minnesota Medical School in Minneapolis — 10,434
•    Ohio State University in Columbus — 8,717
•    SUNY Downstate Medical Center in New York City — 8,613
•    Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit — 8,488
