In addition to being a board certified, fellowship trained spine surgeon, Dr. Grossman has a lifelong dedication to sports and fitness. As a martial arts enthusiast, he has trained in multiple disciplines including Taekwondo, boxing, and Brazilian JiuJitsu. He has competed on both the state and national level, earning numerous accolades. He has utilized this expertise in martial arts to instruct and coach collegiately. An avid athlete, he has also competed two marathons. As a fitness enthusiast, he works diligently on strength and conditioning programs which include cycling, rock climbing, yoga, and CrossFit.
Dr. Grossman (a proponent of minimally invasive spine surgery when surgery is necessary) combines his experience and appreciation of athletic endeavors, including sports and dance, with his approach to medicine.
As he explains, “I feel strongly that living an active lifestyle is essential to maintaining good health, especially in the spine and musculoskeletal system. Maintaining a strong, flexible spine is essential in order to minimize the risk of needing invasive procedures.”
Dr. Grossman continues, “As an athlete, I’ve had my share of sports related injuries over the years. The desire to understand my injuries and how the body works is a key reason why I went into orthopedics.”
“My wife danced professionally as a ballerina for many years. I’m a huge fan of ballet; in my opinion, this is a form of art and athletics which pushes the limits of physical performance. Watching her perform has given me a better appreciation and understanding of biomechanics, which is the foundation of being an orthopedist. Our work is trying to restore and optimize the human body. Whether it be for a professional athlete trying to return to a sport or a patient trying to return to a strenuous work environment, the principles are the same.”
Dr. Grossman joins spine surgeons Dr. Jonathan Lewin and Dr. VagminVora and pain management specialist Dr. Jonathan Simhaee at The Center for Spinal Disorders (CSD). CSD is located in Englewood, New Jersey as well as Brooklyn and Rego Park, New York. CSD provides a full range of diagnostic and treatment services for back pain and spinal disorders. This includes both non-operative and operative treatments.
