SGR Fix, ICD-10 Delay Bill Sent to President Obama

Both the House of Representatives and U.S. Senate have voted for legislation that prevents the 24 percent reduction in Medicare payment to physicians — scheduled to go into effect today — and ICD-10 revision — scheduled to take effect Oct. 1 — by one year, according to a Medscape Medical News report.

The bill has been sent to President Obama and awaits his signature. There have been strong objections to delaying the sustainable growth rate cuts from the medical community, many of whom favor a “permanent” fix by repealing and replacing the legislation instead of another temporary delay in cuts. However, there has been support from professional healthcare associations for the ICD-10 conversion delay.
