Sanford, University of North Dakota to launch orthopedic residency program: 5 notes

Sioux Falls, S.D.-based Sanford Health is teaming up with Grand Forks-based University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences to create a new orthopedic surgery residency program, according to West Fargo Pioneer.

Here are five notes:

 

1. The accredited residency program will train surgeons in bone and joint health.

 

2. Sanford and UND plan to launch the program, which has a budget of $2 million annually, in the summer of 2018.

 

3. Initially, it will hold three slots annually for five years, growing to a total of 15 residents.

 

4. Bruce Piatt, MD, a Sanford orthopedic surgeon, will serve as the residency program’s director.

 

5. An endowment fund will sustain the program.
