Philadelphia-based Rothman Orthopaedics will stay in Highmark’s Pennsylvania networks after the two organizations resolved a contract dispute that had put Rothman’s in-network status at risk.
Highmark had issued a termination notice to Rothman; it has now withdrawn that notice, according to a Sept. 22 news release. Rothman physicians and services will remain in network under Highmark Blue Shield and Federal Employee Program plans.
“Throughout these discussions, our shared priority has been the patients and members we serve,” Dan Tropeano, segment president of Highmark Blue Shield, said in the release. “Working collaboratively, we were able to reach a resolution that maintains continuity of care, minimizes disruption, and supports continued access to high-quality, affordable orthopedic services across the region.”
“While our organizations had differing perspectives on certain issues, we remained committed to finding a path forward that put patients first,” said Alexander Vaccaro, MD, PhD, president of Rothman Orthopaedics. “We appreciate the efforts of both teams to work through those issues respectfully and reach an outcome that benefits the communities we serve.”
Patients currently seeing Rothman providers will see no change to their in-network coverage. Other terms of the Highmark-Rothman contract remain under discussion, but both sides have committed to keeping Rothman in network while those talks continue.
