Physician Compare Website: 3 Things for Practices to Know

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services will begin reporting performance data for large practices on the Physician Compare Website early next year and there are several ways these reports could impact physician practices, according to a Medscape report.

The impact could include:

•    Confusion for patients — physicians have reported inaccuracies on the website such as wrong addresses or misidentified specialties associated with their listings.
•    Inaccurate information — providers are able to review and correct quality information before it’s posted online, but if an error is reported after the 30-day grace period the correction will be made “as soon as technically feasible.”
•    Patients may not understand the data presented and misinterpret information about the practice.
