Pennsylvania health system to acquire orthopedic group

Johnstown, Pa.-based Conemaugh Physician Group is acquiring Western Pennsylvania Orthopedic & Sports Medicine in Southmont, Pa., reports The Tribune Democrat.

Four things to know:

1. The acquisition, effective Oct. 1, will rename the practice Western Pennsylvania Orthopedics — Conemaugh Physician Group.

2. CPG is a division of Conemaugh Health System in Johnstown, Pa.

3. All WPOSM staff will become employees of Conemaugh and continue to see patients at Southmont and Ebensburg, Pa.

4. The acquisition seeks to improve physician recruiting efforts, which has been a challenge for facilities in the region. The practice is now looking to hire orthopedic surgeons to the group.
