Spokane, Wash.-based Northwest Orthopaedic Specialists is the newest practice to join PELTO Health Partners.

The practice has 23 physicians and five locations, according to a June 18 news release shared with Becker’s. Like other groups that have joined PELTO, the ability to remain independent, while continuing to grow, was a major factor in the decision to join.

“We want our name to be associated with things that are successful and have the right end goals in mind,” Tim Powers, MD, a spine surgeon with the group, told Becker’s. “And so we have joined organizations that are really designed to promote independent private practices and strengthen them. And PELTO seems very much like that to us. Its design fits our model, and they share a lot of the same goals that we have.”

Some of the immediate benefits the practice has seen include support in buying power and being able to lower costs long-term, CEO Quinanna Robins told Becker’s.

“When we looked into PELTO we identified some areas pretty quickly where there’s an advantage for us to partner with them and improve our operational expenses,” she said. “If we can improve our operations also through some of the systems and contracting, there’s a benefit to our patients. We’re always trying to keep the patients top of mind and doing what’s best for them, so it’s been a win-win right out of the gate.”
