Boston Orthopaedic and Spine is joining PELTO Health Partners.

The practice has 13 physicians and four locations, according to its website. Boston Orthopaedic and Spine is the second addition PELTO has made since October.

Thomas Burke, MD, president of Boston Orthopaedic and Spine, said the practice went through some mergers in the past with other groups who wanted to remain independent. But the move to join PELTO came with an interest to grow and stay afloat amid challenges in the healthcare landscape.

“As the systems around us have have grown in scale, and with increasing regulations and declining reimbursements it’s getting harder and harder to stay small,” Dr. Burke told Becker’s.

He said he looked at all of his consolidation options and was drawn to PELTO for its emphasis on maintaining physician autonomy.

“Having control over [physician care] is very important going forward, and PELTO was the best fit for us,” he said. “They were also independent, and they want to deliver the best care for their patients.”
