The report includes responses from 613 physicians, of which 146 were primary care physicians, 142 were surgical specialists, 197 were non-surgical specialists and 128 were classified as “other.”
Of the 63 percent of surgical specialists and 67 percent of non-surgical specialists who found practicing medicine satisfying, the top three most satisfying factors about practicing medicine, according to respondents, were:
• Patient relationships — 41 percent of surgical specialists and 38 percent of non-surgical specialists
• Protecting and promoting the health of individuals — 33 percent of surgical specialists and 29 percent of non-surgical specialists
• Intellectual stimulation — 16 percent of surgical specialists and 19 percent of non-surgical specialists
