Here are five things to know:

1. The new center opened on June 1 and includes fellowship-trained regenerative medicine experts.

2. The specialists are able to use human stem cells and platelet-rich plasma to treat patients suffering from chronic pain conditions, including arthritis, back pain, tendon and ligament tears and tendonitis.

3. The stem cell and regenerative treatments could be an alternative for surgery for those who are unable to undergo surgical procedures, or those who chose not to.

4. The Orthopaedic & Spine Center is a full-service practice that includes an open MRI and physical therapy center. The surgeons also have privileges at Peninsula Surgery Center.

5. Treatments include amniotic stem cell injections, bone marrow-derived stem cell injections and platelet-rich plasma.

“Regenerative medicine is the next frontier in progressive patient care,” said Orthopaedic & Spine Center’s Mark McFarland, MD. “We are excited to now offer these treatment options to our patients in the Hampton Roads area.”
