1. The grant totaled $200,000.
2. The magnet school’s students are from the inner city and surrounding areas of Los Angeles.
3. OIC and Orthopaedic Medical Magnet High School have been in partnership for some time. OIC representatives take part in the Los Angeles Unified School District’s advisory committee to the school. Additionally, OIC physicians help design the school’s curriculum.
4. The high school also offers after school programs, summer internships and volunteer experiences at OIC.
5. In addition, OIC researchers help the students with their science fair projects and hold seminars about medical careers.
6. The Orthopaedic Medical Magnet High School opened in 2004 and has a 95 percent graduation rate.
