Orlando Orthopaedic Center gets hit with security breach: 5 insights

Last year, Orlando (Fla.) Orthopaedic Center experienced a security breach that exposed patient information on the internet, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

Here are five insights:

1. Orlando Orthopaedic Center became aware of the breach in February and began investigating. Patients affected by the security breach have been contacted.

2. A transcription service vendor server was unsecure in December 2017 after a software update, which caused its contents, including protected health information, to be viewable on the internet.

3. Information exposed from the breach included:

• Names, date of births, treatment types, insurance information and employer
• Social Security numbers of a limited number of patients

4. No credit card or banking information was compromised in the security breach.

5. Orlando Orthopaedic Center is not aware of any fraud reports, theft or improper use of the at-risk information since the security breach.
