NYC surpasses Silicon Valley in digital health startup funding for 1st time — 5 insights

Funding flowing into New York City’s digital health space has surpassed that of Silicon Valley, according to vator.

Here are five insights:

 

1. By the end of November 2016, New York City’s digital health startups raised $866 million, reflecting 49 percent more than Silicon Valley startups ($582 million), based on a CB Insights report.

 

2. This year represents the first year New York City’s digital health funding has exceeded that of Silicon Valley.

 

3. Back in 2012, Silicon Valley easily beat out New York City in digital health, with a 238 percent funding gap. By 2015, however, Silicon Valley only beat out New York City funding by 20 percent.

 

4. While Silicon Valley health startup funding has risen more than 150 percent since 2012, New York City has seen a 1,000 percent boost.

 

5. New York saw a big bump this year, with Oscar Health raising $400 million and Flatiron Health raising $175 million.
