Nurses may benefit from simulation training — 5 observations on new guidelines

The National Council of State Boards of Nursing released guidelines about the importance of implementing simulation in training, according to News-Medical. The Journal of Nursing Regulation published the guidelines.

Here are five observations:

 

1. The guidelines recommend that nurses receive certification in simulation-based training to improve healthcare quality.

 

2. The NCSBS suggests the Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator as a tool for training.

 

3. The guidelines reference a study that concluded simulation training could be “substituted for up to 50 percent of traditional clinical hours across the pre-licensure nursing curriculum.”

 

4. Simulation training improves critical thinking, sharpens skills and increases clinical reasoning, based on the guidelines.

 

5. The Society for Simulation in Healthcare helped create the guidelines.
