Here are six things to know:

1. Novant requested permission to spend $13.1 million on a multi-specialty ASC.

2. The inpatient project costs $49 million and will feature 36 inpatient and six observational beds. The facility will provide orthopedic care with a focus on joint replacement. One hundred jobs are expected to be created.

3. If the certificate is awarded, the Novant facility is expected to be completed in mid-2019.

4. Wake Forest Baptist requested $13.7 million to add an operating room and a minor procedure room at Bermuda Run, N.C.-based Davie Medical Center. The practice currently has two operating rooms and two procedure rooms.

5. Wake Forest Baptist’s facility is a $47 million, 50-bed hospital and is expected to be opened in the spring. No opening date has been announced.

6. North Carolina healthcare systems and providers are required to have a certificate-of-need before building facilities, buying equipment or offering surgical procedures. The law, which is a cost controlling measure, took effect in 1978 and is designed to prevent unnecessary duplication of services in a community. The two hospital projects involve different service areas.
