“We saw a need in our areas to provide patients with a better healthcare experience; one that is focused on a patient’s personalized needs utilizing the most cutting edge techniques,” K Samer Shamieh, MD, medical director and lead spine surgeon for Avala, said in an April 15 news release.

The next specialties the physician network will expand to are spine and orthopedics.

Avala’s orthopedics program has invested heavily in robotics. It includes the ExcelsiusGPS system for spine surgery and two Mako systems for hip and knee replacement procedures.
