Here are six things to know:
1. The average U.S. resident salary is $59,300, a nearly 7 percent increase over the last three years.
2. Orthopedic surgery residents have an average salary of $59,900.
3. Orthopedic residents have an average salary of $60,100.
4. Neurological surgery residents make an average salary of $61,800.
5. Less than half – 45 percent – of surveyed residents feel fairly compensated. Eighty-two percent of dissatisfied residents reported their compensation does not reflect the number of hours they work.
7. Almost a quarter of surveyed residents – 23 percent – reported having no medical school debt. The same percentage have debt exceeding $300,000.
