Five things to know:
1. The Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education removed the hospital’s credentials for the program following a Sept. 18 visit.
2. DMC runs the neurosurgery residency program with Wayne State University in Detroit.
3. WSU’s top neurosurgical faculty recently left to join DMC, leaving the university without the required teaching credentials for the neurosurgery program.
4. WSU School of Medicine Dean Jack Sobel, MD, told The Detroit News that the program will appeal the decision.
5. The council accredits 11,000 residency programs in the U.S. annually and removed credentials from eight programs this year.
