Market Data Remains Top Driver for Physician Salaries

When medical groups create physician base salaries, market salary data is still the top determinant, according to the American Medical Group Association‘s 2012 medical group compensation and financial survey.

Nearly 84 percent of survey respondents said market salary data is a factor in determining base salary of their physicians. Roughly 144 medical groups were surveyed on this topic.

Here are the top six base salary determinants for medical groups, according to the AMGA survey.

• Market salary data: 84 percent
• Percentage of concurrent production: 33 percent
• Percentage of last year’s salary: 17 percent
• Defined salary range: 17 percent
• Percent of expected future compensation: 8 percent
• Panel size of work units: 4 percent
