Seven key developments at New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery in the past seven months, including the new president of its Florida operations and director of an inaugural augmented reality spine program:

1. HSS' Innovation Institute in June teamed with a virtual reality company to develop full-body technology for orthopedic diagnostics and treatment. The health system plans to develop a full body suit to improve motion assessment, performance training and rehabilitation through the collaboration.

2. HSS Midtown, an 18-physician center focused on nonsurgical and postoperative care, opened in June. Services include imaging, physical therapy, acupuncture and massage therapy.

3. Harvinder Sandhu, MD, co-chief of HSS Spine, was named director of the AR spine surgery program at Stamford (Conn.) Health's Bennett Medical Center in April.

4. In April, Michael Enriquez was named president of HSS' Florida facility in West Palm Beach. Mr. Enriquez has more than 20 years of experience working at health systems and physician practices, and was previously CEO of York, Pa.-based OSS Health, an orthopedic-focused health system.

5. Reginald Odom was appointed senior vice president and chief people officer at HSS in April. He focuses on employee engagement, talent acquisition and management, organizational development and succession planning. Mr. Odom previously served as chief human resources officer at Physician Affiliate Group of New York.

6.  Jonathan Vigdorchik, MD, performed the first AR-assisted knee-replacement in the U.S. with Medacta's NextAR system. The technology includes glasses that allow surgeons to see and follow operating plans projected onto the patient.

7. Martin Roche, MD, a total joint specialist who performed the first sensor- and robotic-assisted knee surgery, was appointed director of hip and knee arthroplasty at HSS Florida in January. Dr. Roche is working with John Wang, MD, part of HSS Florida's founding medical team, to expand the system's presence in Florida.
