Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.-based American Orthopedic Partners is expanding with investment from Stone Point Capital, a private equity company, and two legendary orthopedic surgeons joining as board members.

American Orthopedic Partners formed as a national orthopedic practice entity. Its partnership business model allows orthopedic surgeons to maintain control of their practices while collaborating with other network members on national initiatives and accessing practice growth resources.

James Andrews, MD, founder of Andrews Institute in Pensacola, Fla., and internationally known as the surgeon to top athletes such as Michael Jordan and Brett Favre, joined the board of American Orthopedic Partners alongside Russell Warren, MD, surgeon-in-chief emeritus of Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City. Dr. Warren is known as a pioneer in soft tissue research and was a team physician for the New York Giants.

Dr. Andrews and Dr. Warren are former presidents of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine.

"I've spent my career developing best practices and new ways to treat sports injuries that improve outcomes," said Dr. Andrews. "I wanted to find an organization with national scale where I could share my experience in clinical research, and best practices, and my passion for orthopedics."

Jay Bronner, MD, leads American Orthopedic Partners as CEO. He said Stone Point Capital was an ideal partner for the organization because it has long-term payer relationships and a workers' compensation network that will help American Orthopedic Partners practices deliver value-based care.
