8 things to know about The CORE Institute in 2021

Founded in 2005, Phoenix-based The CORE Institute has grown into a prominent orthopedic practice in the nation. Here's what you should know about the practice in 2021:

1. The CORE Institute is one of the largest orthopedic practices in the U.S., with 79 physicians.

2. The CORE Institute has 27 clinics and locations across Arizona and Michigan.

3. Healthgrades named The CORE Institute Specialty Hospital in its "2021 Specialty Excellence Awards" on Oct. 20. 

4. The CORE Institute relocated its center in Gilbert, Ariz., to a new facility, according to a March 18 report.

5. The CORE Institute partnered with Cancer Treatment Centers of America Phoenix in October to focus on orthopedic cancer care.

6. Wael Barsoum, MD, left his post as CEO of Cleveland Clinic Florida to join HOPCo, the owner of orthopedic specialty practices including The CORE Institute, according to a June 24 report.

7. The CORE Institute launched a rapid COVID-19 antibody testing program, according to a May 1 report. 

8. Jason Scalise, MD, an orthopedic surgeon at The CORE Institute and vice chair of HOPCo told Becker's Spine Review in April 2020 that at-risk payer models were among the factors that helped the practice stay afloat during the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
