The back end of 2020 saw three significant orthopedic practice mergers announced in Texas, Tennessee and Missouri, which will involve more than 279 physicians:

1. Six orthopedic practices in Texas will merge to form OrthoLoneStar in January. The combined entity will have more than 150 physicians, over 40 locations and 1,000 employees. Bryan Williamson, MD, serves as medical director of the group, which is 100 percent physician-owned.

2. Nashville-based Tennessee Orthopaedic Alliance, Knoxville-based Tennessee Orthopaedic Clinics and Columbia-based Mid-Tennessee Bone & Joint Clinic agreed in August to merge into a single group. The transaction, expected to close by January, will have a combined 104 physicians, more than 27 locations and over 800 employees.

3. Leawood. Kan.-based Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Consultants and Dickson-Diveley Orthopaedics will merge March 1, with further expansion plans potentially in the works. The newly formed group will have more than 120 employees, including 25 physicians.
