Baylor Scott & White implements sideline concussion test app tool for student athletes

Practice Management

Baylor Scott & White Texas Spine and Joint Hospital Tyler is using cognitive assessment app HitCheck to perform mobile concussion tests for student athletes across the state, according to an Oct. 28 announcement.

The app provides data for athletic trainers to evaluate and share with physicians.

It has the ability to "check an entire team in 20 minutes or less," leading to quicker and more efficient sideline care, according to Daniel Fuller, director of sports medicine outreach for the hospital.

The app converts standardized cognitive testing methods into simple mobile assessment exercises users can take when an injury is suspected.

Each test measures a specific aspect of brain performance, such as coordination, memory and reaction time. HitCheck also compares results with prior performance to highlight changes in brain functions that may require medical attention.
