Encompass Health plans 40-bed Florida facility for spinal cord injury

Practice Management

Birmingham, Ala.-based Encompass Health plans to build a 40-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital in Cape Coral, Fla., for patients recovering from neurologic and orthopedic conditions, according to Wink News.

The facility will treat patients suffering from spinal cord injuries, strokes, brain injuries, amputations and complex orthopedic conditions.

Services will include physical, occupational and speech therapies to restore functional ability and quality of life. Registered nurses will provide 24-hour care.

There is an increasing need for inpatient rehab facilities in the region as populations of Cape Coral and neighboring Fort Meyers continue to rise, an Encompass Health executive told Wink News.

In June, the health system opened a similar 40-bed facility in Coralville, Iowa, in partnership with the University of Iowa Health Care in Iowa City.
