Meet the newest PE-backed orthopedic platform: U.S. Orthopedic Partners

Private equity firm Thurston Group formed orthopedic management services organization U.S. Orthopedic Partners through a partnership with FFL Partners and Jackson-based Mississippi Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center Oct. 2.

What you should know:

1. MSMOC has three locations in Mississippi and an ASC in Flowood, Miss. It accepted an undisclosed amount of money to affiliate with Thurston Group.

2. USOP is a full-service, integrated orthopedic platform, currently focused on establishing a footprint in the Southeastern U.S.

3. Patrick Haynes III, founder and chair of the Thurston Group, said: "The Thurston Group is honored to partner with MSMOC and FFL in forming USOP. USOP will be the dominant regional provider in the Southeast delivering quality care to its patients and simultaneously bringing efficiencies to the payers. Their approach to a full suite of services creates the template for the future of orthopedic care."

4. Thurston Group established the platform to capitalize on a growing orthopedic care market. Inpatient and outpatient orthopedic surgeries generate $110 billion in annual revenue.
