Rush University Medical Center reopens for elective procedures, outpatient services

Practice Management

Chicago-based Rush University Medical Center reopened for elective surgical procedures in response to the city of Chicago lifting the moratorium on elective procedures.

What you should know:

1. Rush shut down its elective surgery program for three months after the city banned such procedures from occurring.

2. Staff, patients and visitors will be given a hospital-grade mask when they enter any Rush facility and will be required to wear the mask while on campus.

3. Patients and staff will have their temperature taken upon entering the facility and will be subject to social distancing rules.

4. The health system will use hospital-grade disinfectant to clean high-touch areas, public areas, patient rooms and waiting rooms.

5. Rush implemented several other measures like creating a cellphone parking lot for visitors to wait in, enhancing its COVID-19 screening protocols and relying on telemedicine whenever possible.
