With a $500,000 county grant, Insight Surgical Hospital is converting a vacant hospital into an 80-bed overflow facility for COVID-19 cases, according to ClickOnDetroit.

The overflow hospital could open as early as April 17 in Lincoln Park, Mich., with capacity for up to 440 beds if needed.

After the pandemic, Warren, Mich.-based Insight plans to convert the 128,000-square-foot hospital into a surgical center specializing in neuroscience. The center would create an estimated 300 jobs.

Insight intends to invest $21.5 million in renovations.
