Dr. Bruce Piatt details Sanford Health's preparation for COVID-19

Practice Management

Bruce Piatt, MD, chair of the orthopedic department at Sioux Falls, S.D.-based Sanford Health, outlined how physicians are teaming together to address the COVID-19 across the system's facilities, reports Kare11.

Although Dr. Piatt specializes in orthopedic surgery and sports medicine, he stands by his medical training and, like many physicians, is prepared to help his colleagues treat COVID-19 patients on the front lines.

"Even though I'm an orthopedic surgeon ... I'm still a physician," Dr. Piatt said in an interview with his son on Kare11. "We all know that there will be things we can contribute, maybe not in a lead role —but more in a servant role to help out wherever we're needed in the healthcare system."

Sanford provides care to patients of Fargo, N.D., Bismarck, N.D., Sioux Falls, S.D., and Bemidji, Minn.

On March 25, Sanford was treating some patients with COVID-19 on an outpatient basis and was yet to have anyone hospitalized.
